Smart school

Due to meeting so many amazing people and building relationships (and friendships) in our initial project in 2009 to provide support for families affected by the typhoons in the Philippines, we have developed plans to establish a primary school in Laguna, Philippines…

This school will offer children a ‘kick-start’ in learning through providing access to leading ICT and creative technology, being structured as a social enterprise to benefit the local community and offering the first access to primary level learning for children whose families cannot afford private schooling (currently the only option of primary learning before age 7 in this region)

The school will use the expertise of leading educationalists and promote the use of the latest learning technologies, offering a unique, learner centric learning experience underpinned by world class ICT and creative technology which surpasses anything currently available locally and provides access to technology for people who would otherwise have no opportunity.

Education is seen as the key to breaking the cycle of poverty in the Philippines but the lack of state learning pre 7 years, means that children from poorer families do not generally excel when state schooling begins, which then impacts on their longer term opportunity to progress to college / employment. Through delivering this project in a disadvantaged rural community, we intend to target support at children who need it most, and make a real / measurable impact in the numbers of excelling young learners who are subsequently more likely to become economically active in later life.
